Exhibition Features Quang Ngai Island Heritages

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in central province of Quang Ngai opened an exhibition entitled “Quang Ngai - Sea and Island Cultural Heritages” on August 29 to mark the August Revolution and National Day.

 

On display are nearly 400 artifacts of Sa Huynh and Champa culture and others found in waters off the coast of Quang Ngai, and south central region, documents on sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos, over 100 photos showing the lives of local fishermen as well as the potential and strengths of a marine-based economy in the province.

 

The five-day event also features a model of a merchant ship, a type popular from the mid 16th century to early 20th century, and a model of a fishing boat which was used by the local fishermen for fishing on sea and by naval forces to affirm sovereignty over the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagos from the late 16th century to the middle of the 19th century.

 

The event aims to step up the preservation and promotion of sea and island cultural heritages with a vision for socio-economic development in the locality, and raise public awareness of revolutionary tradition and sovereignty over territorial waters of Vietnam, especially among young generations.
