For the past years, the rural transport network in Vinh Long province has been improved, creating favourable conditions for travel and helping foster local socio-economic development.
Vinh Long province now has total 2,693 km of rural road. In the period 2008 – 2013, the transport road network has received investment for new construction and improvement. As of the end of 2012, the provincial transport network had added 1,138 km of road for cars; now, all the commune centres are accessible by cars.
Total investment for transport development in Vinh Long province during 2008-2013 period was VND1,264 billion, including VND925 billion from State Budget and VND339 billion from organisations and individuals. The biggest success in Vinh Long transport development is applying “socialising transport construction” model, receiving VND339 billion donated by organizations and individuals, accounting for 26.8 percent in total fund for road and bridge improvement in the province.
In 2013, Vinh Long has allocated VND27.5 billion for projects investing in car road to commune centres and VND113 billion for transport infrastructure in its districts and city. At present, the localities are actively calling organisations and people for contributions of money, materials and land donation for road construction.
Determining transport development as one of the core tasks attached to the National Target Programme of New Rural Development, from now to 2015, Vinh Long will foster mobilisation of all its resources, better policies to attract investment from economic sectors into transport infrastructure. The province targets, by 2015, to build and complete 500 km or rural road with quality, concentrate on supporting 22 core communes in new rural development program to meet criteria of transport and assisting the others to beat at least 40 percent of the criteria, and construct 171 km of rural road annually.
Additionally, the province will continue to combine infrastructure projects in the districts to increase investment efficiency, promote the synchronism of infrastructure, transport network with district roads and coordinate with agencies to foster communication and mobilisation of people’s land donation for road construction. Meanwhile, the localities with good performance in transport development will be replicated.
