The Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) has inked a memorandum of understanding with northern Nam Dinh province’s People Committee on the construction of some key works of Ninh Co Economic Zone (EZ).

Vinashin will build an urban, industrial and port complex of 8,780 ha in the Ninh Co EZ, to be located at the province’s coastal districts of Hai Hau and Nghia Hung. The complex will include an airport, industrial and transport service zones in addition to apartment buildings, tourist sites and service centers.

The group plans to develop Thinh Long tourism resort into a big eco-tourism complex and a port and a petrochemical plant in Nghia Hung district.

Vinashin, now the biggest shipbuilder in Vietnam, attained after-tax profits of VND42.3 billion ($2.6 million) in the first half of this year.

It expects to obtain revenues of $1 billion in 2007, up from $690 million in 2005 and plans to raise its charter capital from VND40 billion to VND138 billion. (VNA)
