Vietnam Calls on Japan to Open Market for Blue Dragon Fruit
The Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has asked the Japanese Quarantine and Checking Agency to open its market for Vietnamese blue dragon fruit after Vietnam put melon fly under control.
Dam Quoc Tru, vice head of the department said after Vietnamese blue dragon fruit was accepted in the U.S. market, Vietnam wanted its fruit to set a foothold at Japan market, the Saigon Economic Time said.
The U.S. and Japan are recognized as potential markets for Vietnamese blue dragon fruits.
Vietnam had exported the fruit to Japan, but then had to halt as Japan discovered melon fly in the fruit.
“The U.S. asked Vietnam to treat the melon fly by radiation method, buy Japan asked to use hot steam,” Tru said, adding that Vietnam is controlling the insect by the two methods. (Saigon Economic Times)
