Vietnam was estimated to ship abroad 19.27 million tons of coal valued at roughly US$1.4 billion in the first eleven months this year, down 34.7 per cent on-year in volume but up 50.5 per cent in value, the General Statistics Office reported.

Of the total figures, November accounted for 1 million tons and US$100 million, the office said.

The Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group, the country’s top mining company, said earlier that it was seeking permission to export coal through Van Bao Border Gate in northern Quang Ninh province, with an aim to deal with five million tons of coal in stock.

The group has cut its target of coal production this year to 37 million tons from 43 million tons earlier, of which, coal exports will be 18.5 million tons, in stead of 23 million tons. (GSO Nov 2008)
