30 per cent of Footwear Workers in Vietnam Quit Jobs: Report
Vietnam has reported 30 per cent of workers in footwear industry quitting jobs due to low salary over the past years, causing workforce shortage in the sector, the Investment newspaper reported.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that average monthly income for a worker in the footwear sector is VND1 million to VND1.5 million (US$61-US$91.5) in northern Vietnam and VND1.35 million-VND2 million (US$82.3-US$122) in southern Vietnam.
Possible difficulties and challenges of the sector has been also a reason for the situation, the ministry added.
If the sector and local authorities do not find proper solutions, the footwear industry will face more serious shortage of human resources in years to come.
Vietnam now has 450 enterprises operating in the footwear sector including 16 state-run, 214 non state-run, more than 200 foreign-invested firms and 20 joint ventures. (Investment)
