Vietnam’s Health Sector Stresses Four Key Targets in 2009
Vietnam’s health sector will next year pay due attention to four main targets of addressing hospitals’ overload, lowering malnutrition rate and birthrate and treat more medical solid waste, said a conference held in Ho Chi Minh City December 27 to review the health sector’s works in 2008 and setting targets for 2009.
The sector aims to raise the number of sickbeds to 26.85 in every 10,000 residents and reduce the malnutrition rate among under-five children and birthrate to below 19 per cent and 0.2‰ in 2009.
It also targets to treat about 75 per cent of medical solid waste nationwide.
Next year, the sector will also enhance disease prevention and control, finalize medical legal framework, develop the health network and mobilize the participation of all sectors in ensuring social security, said Health Minister Nguyen Quoc Trieu.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan encouraged the health sector to coordinate with the education and financial sectors to boost training for health staff and improve the quality of health services for local residents. (VNS, Vietnam Economic Times)
