Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement to Take Effect in October
The Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (VJEPA) will officially take effect October 1 this year, participants at a conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on August 13 were told.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Finance and the Ho Chi Minh City branch of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) organized the conference.
Those attending the forum were briefed on the contents of VJEPA, procedures related to granting certificates of origin, tax cuts on Vietnamese and Japanese goods and several other issues.
Under VJEPA, signed in December last year, Vietnam and Japan agreed to exempt tax on 92 per cent of bilateral trade within 10 years of implementation (2009-2019), state media said.
Vietnam had a trade surplus of US$297 million with Japan last year, compared with a deficit of US$108 million in 2007, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said. (Vietnam & World Economy)
