Danish Queen’s Vietnam Visit to Boost Trade Ties: Ambassador
The upcoming visit to Vietnam by Danish Queen Magrethe II, accompanied by a delegation of 69 businesses, is expected to boost trade ties with the Southeast Asian country, said Danish Ambassador Peter Lysholt Hansen.
During her six-day trip to Vietnam in November, the Queen will discuss with Vietnamese authorities on climate change and clean technology, the Danish diplomat said, adding that a series of cultural activities will be held on the occasion.
Vietnam and Denmark set up diplomatic ties in 1971.
The number of Danish businesses investing in Vietnam has increased from 50 in five years ago to more than 100 currently.
Denmark was among the biggest ODA providers for Vietnam with US$73 million last year.
Denmark’s ODA sources have directly contributed to increase incomes for over 500,000 farm households, supply clean water for nearly one million people and raise the Southeast Asian nation’s seafood export turnover from US$500 million in 1995 to US$4.5 million in 2008, the ambassador said.
As Vietnam is striving to become medium-income nation soon, Denmark’s assistances will focus on the fields of trade and investment in the future, Ambassador Peter noted. (CPV)
