Concentrated Training for High Quality Workforce

Khanh Hoa is also known as one of 10 provinces with the largest number of intellectuals in the country. Currently, there are 40 scientific and technological research units, and more than 20,500 bachelors, and over 200 staff of postgraduate levels. The ratio of trained workers accounts for 25 percent. This is the premise for Khanh Hoa to thrive.
Mr Luong Quoc Thanh, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Education and Training, excitedly spoke about the achievements in the local education and training. Currently, Khanh Hoa province has a fully covered school network, ensuring enough space for the cause of education and training. Mountainous districts where ethnic minorities are living also have high schools, boarding schools and continuing education centres. The island district of Truong Sa has also kindergartens and primary schools in some of its islands. The province has more than 300,000 students. Several important education development criteria have been reached: Mobilising 97 percent of children aged under five to go to kindergartens, 99.7 percent of children aged 6 have started primary schools, 99.1 percent of primary students qualified for junior secondary education, and 72 percent of junior secondary students qualified for high schools. Many other forms of education have been adopted to increase the intellectual level of the people, including continuation education, computer science, foreign language and vocational training).
 
According to the Khanh Hoa Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the province is home to 3,855 enterprises of all economic sectors as of June 30, 2009 which employ around 200,000 workers. Mr Mai Xuan Tri, Deputy Director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, said: "Khanh Hoa province’s authorities annually approve the socioeconomic development programme, aiming to create 25,000 jobs a year."
 
In the first nine months of 2009, the province created 18,308 new jobs, fulfilling 73.23 percent of the plan annual year with 25,000 people, and sent 127 people to work abroad, or 35.28 percent of the yearly plan with 360 people.
 
Currently, the province of Khanh Hoa has two vocational training colleges, including one State-run Nha Trang Vocational Training College and one private-run Vietnam International Vocational Training School established under the decision of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs. The province is also home to six vocational high schools and six vocational training centres (including two State-owned centres and four private-run centres). There are also 36 other vocational training schools, mainly focusing on basic training. Several educational units such as Nha Trang University, Khanh Hoa Medical College, Nha Trang Culture Art and Tourism College, Khanh Hoa Economics High School, and Khanh Hoa Tourism School also participated in vocational training. As of January 1, 2009, the province had 354 vocational trainers, including 158 teachers working in State-owned establishments with long-term employment contracts. On average, each trainer is responsible for training 25 students. Annually, education units train 23,000 trainees.
