The Global economic downturn caused the number of tourists to Vietnam to slump; thus negatively affecting operations of accommodation service industry. But thanks to its standard facilities and excellent services, Sao Mai Resort, a subsidiary of An Giang province-based Sao Mai Investment and Construction Corporation (Sao Mai Conscorp), still steadfastly withstood all difficulties.
Favourable location, flexible price
Sao Mai Resort was built in 2003 in Phu My town, Tan Thanh district, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. The resort leans its back on Thi Vai Mountain, faces Highway 51, Phu My Industrial Zone and Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port. The precursor of Sao Mai Resort is South Korean Hotel exclusive for Samsung experts. Since the takeover and renaming Sao Mai Resort, the board of management has continuously upgraded the facility to a renowned place for relaxation. At present, this is a familiar address for domestic and international companies and experts when they work in the industrial park. With its favourable waterway and roadway conditions, Sao Mai Resort is the ideal tourism destination.
At present, Sao Mai Resort has 132 rooms with an average occupancy rate of up to 95 %. It also has a restaurant for wedding and birthday parties, conferencing facilities, tennis courts, swimming pools, billiard centres and table tennis centres. Talking about the secret to keep room occupancy rate high, Mr Dang Quoc Trieu, Director of Sao Mai Resort, revealed: “Our target customers are not only tourists but also experts and engineers working in the industrial zone. When the tourism industry was affected by the global economic crisis, the number of experts and engineers working in the industrial park did not decrease. Sao Mai Resort can, therefore, retain the number of guests.”
“Besides, Sao Mai Resort has applied suitable governance which accepts lower profitability to increase customers. We are aware that the global economic downturn will affect the spending of customers, they will choose hotels at reasonable prices and Sao Mai Resort has launched flexible pricing strategies to attract customers” he added.
Good services
“We know that the hospitality industry is determined by service quality; thus, each individual must be self-aware and responsible for their work and must always improve themselves and enhance service quality to serve customers in the most professional and best manner. In addition, we know that customers are paying us for what we do for them,” Trieu said.
In addition, Sao Mai Resort has invested in cable TV systems, high- speed internet connections, international telephone service, etc. to help our customers rest and work more easily at our resort. The board of management of Sao Mai Resort established a supervisory panel to inspect the service and attitude of staffs, collect feedbacks from customers, and handle unexpected situations.
To improve the service quality, Sao Mai Resort plans to send its employees to study at five-star hotels to help them to gain more expertise.
Always self-refreshing
To persuade customers to return, Sao Mai Resort regularly spends on upgrading its facilities, construction and development. For instance, it furnishes rooms with more modern equipment to increase the luxury. Since March 2009, Sao Mai Resort has operated 20 3-star bungalows with 40 VIP rooms. What’s more, the resort is completing the third swimming pool to increase the service capacity to 1,000 people, upgrading 100 ordinary rooms into 50 VIP rooms, building shopping malls, souvenir shops, gymnasiums, bars, discotheques, massage centres, etc.
“We are upgrading the infrastructure and diversifying products and services to meet the needs of customers. We are also calling investors with strong financial capacity and expertise to do business with us. All efforts of Sao Mai Resort’s leaders are aimed at turning this into an ideal destination for customers,” Mr Trieu concluded.
