Vietnam Jan Imports from China +87% to US$1.44B

Vietnam imported US$1.44 billion worth of goods from China in January, falling 22.96% on-month but jumping 87% on-year, according to the General Department of Customs.
 
The figure accounted for 24.32% of the country’s total import spending during the month, the MoIT said.
 
Vietnam’s major imports from China of machinery and equipment, cloth, computers and electronics and petroleum products reported respective on-year rises of 42..01% to US$383.89 million, 86.6% to US$126.67 million, 314.95% to US$118.93 million and 70.03% to US$105.46 million.
 
Meanwhile, the country’s imports of vegetables and fruits, paper and cotton fell 4.31% from a year earlier to US$15.2 million, 47.81% to US$6.64 million and 96.96% to US$4.1 million, respectively.
 
In early January, the General Statistics Office estimated that Vietnam exported US$4.8 billion worth of goods to its neighbor and imported US$16.1 billion, up 4.9% and 2.7% on-year, respectively. (vinanet)
