Vietnam’s strategy for the industrial development in the 2011-2020 period will focus on promoting major sectors, rearranging industrial areas and boosting supporting industries, the Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade announced.

Key sectors include textiles and garments, footwear and foodstuff processing, energy, metallurgy, machinery, software and new construction materials, the ministry’s website cited Phan Dang Tuat, general director of Institute for Industry Policy and Strategy.

Tuat has just worked with a delegation of Japanese mechanical enterprises to discuss the industrial cooperation and investment.

Japanese experts suggested Vietnam should concentrate on mechanics, plastics, electronic components and new construction materials as the latter spent around $10 billion yearly on importing components to produce mechanical products.

Tuat said the Vietnamese side is promoting the construction of supporting industries areas and system of facilities to welcome Japanese investors.

In the ten-year period, Vietnam plans to build key industrial areas across the country instead of only Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the two cities’ neighboring localities at present.

To do that, Vietnam first needs to invest in improving the infrastructure system, the Japanese businessmen.

Japanese experts added human resources, particularly skilled workers, are also among significant factors for the industrial development of Vietnam. (Trade & Industry)
