Vietnam Manufacturing Expo and NEPCON Vietnam 2010 will be organized from May 20 – 22, 2010 at I.C.E. Hanoi (Cung Van Hoa) in Hanoi by Reed Tradex Company, one of Thailand’s and Indochina’s leading exhibition and conference organizers. On the sidelines of Vietnam Manufacturing Expo and NEPCON Vietnam 2010 Forum #4 held mid March in Hanoi, Vietnam Business Forum conducted an exclusive interview with Ms. Nichapa Yoswee, Managing Director of Reed Tradex Company.

What is your point of view about investment and economic situation in Vietnam recently?

We believe in Vietnam. The Government of Vietnam’s actions to speed up its economy are on right track. During the global economic downturn, Vietnam still recorded the high economic growth rate of 5.3% in 2009 while almost countries in the world and in ASEAN region experienced very low growth rates. Especially, Vietnam was successful in affirming its position as an ideal destination for foreign investors. These figures are clear evidences for the facts that there are lots of business opportunities in Vietnam in the coming years.

What do you about opportunities of Vietnam’s industry, especially among the global and economic crisis?
Despite bad impacts from the economic downturn, Vietnam’s industrial production value last year saw a dynamic growth of 7.6%, therefore, no one can deny the evident growth of Vietnamese manufacturing. Vietnamese industrialists must quicken their steps so that they can have the necessary technologies.

Vietnam is emerging as an outsourcing destination and good supplier of industrial products for the world and many international buyers have arrived Vietnam to make orders. This is good an opportunity for Vietnam’s manufacturing industry to develop.

Could you briefly introduce Reed Tradex’s activities in Vietnam in 2010 and expectation of the series of events?

Is there any impact of the global economic downturn on the events?
Yes, of course. The economic downturn has posed bad impacts to all sectors. Our major, traditional exhibitors from Japan, Singapore, China, Taiwan, India and others had to change their business strategies, especially their marketing approaches to adapt with dramatic declines in sales during 2008 and 2009. However, we have still received many new technologies and new innovations which will be displayed at our shows in order to catch up with new trends after the downturn.

Can you give some assessments on Vietnam’s exhibition industry over the past three years and in the coming years?
The exhibition sector in Vietnam remains big potential. However, there are too many small-scale fairs and exhibitions organized in Vietnam every year. Visitors find it very difficult to select a suitable show to visit and they almost are unhappy after visiting such events. In my opinion, there is no exhibition which is considered famous, specialized and high-quality shows in Vietnam.

It is necessary for Vietnamese exhibition organizers to improve the quality of each show, focus on large-scale and international standard events to create useful marketplaces for all relevant parties.

Reed Tradex approaches the 25th Anniversary as Thailand and Vietnam’s leading Trade Promoter with “Up Customer Excellence” for Vietnam’s Exhibition Revolution. What do you think about this outstanding achievement?
It will be the best celebration of Reed Tradex. This is also a reason and exciting motivation for us to improve the quality of all shows every year, and to create high-quality events which will benefit not only exhibitors and visitor from the marketplaces but also partly support industrialization strategies of each country. With 25 years of experience as a professional trade promoter and opportunity provider, we believe that the exhibitions and conferences we are preparing will provide Vietnamese industrialists with excellent opportunities to get face-to-face with the latest innovations, new knowledge and trends, and business networking opportunities

What is the growth rate of Reed Tradex in 2009 and expectation in 2010?

Reed Tradex, Thailand and Vietnam’s leading exhibition and conference organizer, a member of “Reed Exhibitions,” the world’s leading exhibition organizer with 470 events serving 44 industries in 37 countries. In Thailand and Vietnam, we organize 18 strong brands of international exhibitions and conferences. We strongly expect a certain two-digit growth rate in 2010, may be around 15-20%.

Revenue from Vietnam is expected to contribute 10% of the company's total revenue next year and 40% in five years. Reed Tradex hopes to become the leader in the exhibition field in Vietnam in the coming years.

Thank you very much!
