Vietnam Agro, Forestry, Seafood Exports Hit US$3.608B in Q1

Vietnam is estimated to have exported US$3.608 billion worth of agricultural, forestry and seafood products in the first quarter of 2010, the government-run General Statistics Office (GSO) released on March 26.
 
The total revenues included US$861 million from seafood, up 14.5% and US$716 million from woodworks, up 26.3% from a year earlier, and the remaining from eight key farm produce.
 
The GSO said that among the farm produce, exports of rice and coffee dropped sharply while exports of other produce slightly rose against the same period of last year.
 
Vietnam has exported 1.233 million tons of rice valued at US$677 million, down 31% on year in volume and 17% in value.
 
The country’s export of coffee dropped 26% in volume to 330,000 tons worth US$461 million, down 31% against the first quarter of 2009.
 
Export of cassava products, which jumped considerably last year, decreased sharply by 50% in volume at 689,000 tons worth US$180 million, down 2.3% in value.
 
The country has raked in US$332 million from exporting 126,000 tons of rubber, making a surprising rise of 104% in value despite a slight rise of 6.3% in volume.
 
The country has also notched up US$158 million from exporting 30,000 tons of cashew nuts, up 12.2% in value despite a slight decrease of 4.3% in volume; US$35 million from 25,000 tons of tea, up 17.5% and 8.7%, respectively; US$79 million from 26,000 tons of pepper, up 21.1% in value despite a decrease of 3.9% in volume; and US$109 million from vegetables and fruits, up 12%.
