Vietnam, Japan to Boost Transport Ties
Vietnamese Deputy Transport Minister Ngo Thinh Duc and Japanese Deputy Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Kiyomi Tsujimoto have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost transport cooperation.
Under the MoU, two countries will foster ties in making policies, ensuring traffic safety, air and maritime security, using energy efficiently and carrying out environmental protection measures in the field of transport.
Two deputy ministers also discuss building a railway route linking the capital city of Hanoi and Noi Bai international airport. The Japanese side pledged to provide technical assistance to the Vietnamese Transport Ministry to conduct a feasibility study for the idea.
Japanese investors have to date poured US$19.3 billion into 1,211 projects in Vietnam, ranking the 3rd among the countries and territories making investment in the country.
At the Consultative Group Meeting held in Hanoi on December 3-4 last year, Japan pledged to provide Vietnam with US$1.64 billion in ODA this year. (Vietnam Economic Times)
