Apparel Supply Chain in TPP Participants
Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is one of important opening talks of Vietnam in the coming time. Successful TPP talks promise to generate a big leap for the Vietnamese economy thanks to export tax preferences.
On the sideline of the TPP talks held in Ho Chi Minh City in late June 2011, the Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI - HCM) collaborated with the United States - Vietnam Trade Council (USVTC) to organise the seminar entitled “Apparel Supply Chain in TPP Participants”.
At the meeting, participants shared information regarding supply chains of apparel industry: Supply chain of Vietnamese exporters in the U.S. and Europe; supply chains of Vietnamese importers, Rule of Origin (ROO), non-FTA regulations that other nations have signed with the United States.
According to a VITAS representative, the biggest challenges facing the Vietnamese garment and textile industry are technology and access to consumers. Vietnam is now a powerful outsourcer in the world but added value in production is very low. Hence, the Vietnamese garment industry needs to attempt to eliminate all barriers to boost its production value.
