PV Gas: 21 Years of Construction and Development

PV Gas’s objectives are to develop a strong, safe, quality, effective and modern gas industry with a complete operating range in all stages of collection, transportation, processing, storing, trading servicing, importing and exporting; to diversify supply sources of gas and gas products; to boost up the supply in Vietnamese and territory and overseas, to step up the diversification of products with particular emphasis on value-added downstream processing development, and to develop the Vietnamese gas industry into an important technical economic sector of the country.

 

Since it brought ashore the first gas flows in 1995, PV Gas has supplied more than 60 billion cubic metres of dry gas, 5.3 million tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and nearly 1.3 million tonnes of condensate. With safe, continuous management and operation, its gas collecting, transporting, storing, processing and distributing systems from Cuu Long, Nam Con Son and PM3 - Ca Mau annually provide gas to produce 40 percent of the country’s electricity, 30 percent of fertilisers and over 70 percent of liquefied petroleum gas for domestic civil and industrial users. Since 1995, PV Gas has raked in total revenues of VND210 trillion (US$10 billion) and paid more than VND28 trillion (US$1.4 billion) to the State Budget.

 

Operating in a technologically advanced industry with very strict requirements for safety and fire prevention, PV Gas has gradually improved integrated safety - health - environment - quality management system in all production and business stages, and has been certified the OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety certificate, the ISO 14001 environment management system certificate, the ISO 9001 quality management system certificate by the British Standards Institute Group (BSI). PV Gas also announced that the Safety and Quality Policy is "Preventing Damage to Human, Property and Environment" by building a "Culture of Quality and Safety" and this philosophy is totally comprehended by all staffs.

 

In the past 21 years, PV Gas has not caused any serious safety incident. Many technical and management innovations have been introduced, helping the corporation to complete and even exceed higher and higher operating tasks assigned by the PetroVietnam, ensure the quality of products quality is guaranteed, and popularise the utility of gas in the country.

 

To ensure uninterrupted gas supply for power plants, fertiliser producers and industrial users, to improve the efficiency of gas projects and to help stabilise LPG market prices, PV Gas has been actively developing its LPG sales and distribution systems in the country in many different forms. In addition to existing gas systems, PV Gas is carrying out domestic and foreign gas projects, importing and distributing LNG to offset the gas shortfall and ensure national energy and food security.

 

Additionally, PV Gas has supplied low pressure gas and compressed natural gas (CNG) for consumers in the Southeast region, supplied LPG for transport means to replace conventional fuels, and pipelined LPG to residential areas. These have helped diversify gas usages, expand markets and reduce environmental pollution.

 

In the past 21 years of construction and development, PV Gas has so far covered most of gas gathering, transporting, storing, processing, distributing and trading activities in Vietnam. The corporation’s orientated strategies are: developing the gas industry into a leading economic engine, gradually stepping into the world market, securing a high ranking in the ASEAN region, and become a strong name in the Asian gas industry. The corporation was honourably awarded the Third Grade Independence Order; the First Grade, Second Grade and Third Grade Labour Orders; the Vietnam Gold Star Award, and many other awards and titles.
