Son Luyen Import-Export Trading and Service JSC: For Viet Green Colour

After 10 years of turbulence in production – trading and striving to affirm its position in the market, Son Luyen has become one of strong brands in the field of fertilizer. This achievement is attributed to the dynamic and sharpness in way of thinking and doing of Ms Hoang Thi My Huyen, Director of Son Luyen Import-Export Trading and Service JSC. Vietnam Business Forum interviewed Ms Hoang Thi My Huyen. Tuan Anh reports.
Could you please share several outstanding achievements of Son Luyen in recent years?
The main activities of Son Luyen are service and trade. Currently, with over 70 percent of population working in the agriculture, Vietnam is a huge market for agricultural materials. Therefore, we realize that operating in this field will bring many successes if we can offer high quality products and good service. The strong development of Son Luyen has confirmed our assessment. Currently, in several provinces like Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Son Luyen has become number – one distributor of fertilizer brands like Lam Thao and Bac Ha. In 2011, its revenues reached VND120 billion, guaranteeing jobs for 50 people with average incomes of VND4 billion per person per month.
 
To have these achievements, Son Luyen has well conducted the motto: “Accompany farmers and customers” and “Customers are salary payers”. At the same time, we identify company’s targets and development direction to invest in people, measures, infrastructure to achieve these targets. We identify major products in service to elaborate methods to increase competitiveness of the product. We also construct sustainable development strategy, create prestige for enterprise to expand market, keep traditional customers to increase consumption, revenues and profits.
 
Efforts of the company have won trust of customers with products it provide. In several provinces, when buying fertilizers, farmers think immediately about products provided by the company.
 
Investing in infrastructure, applying technology in trading is attributed to the development of the enterprise. Could you please share us something about this?
From the establishment, the enterprise has gradually improved its infrastructure. Specifically, improving software to manage trading rapidly and precisely; improving storehouses with capacity from hundreds of tonnes daily to tens of thousands of tonnes and air ventilation system that ensure goods in storehouses will not be damaged; providing computers to offices; applying three modern belt conveyors to reduce workers’ effort; applying machines to clean rice and improve productivity. On the other hand, applying science in training activity is also paid attention and carried out methodically. All of these efforts result in improving production effectiveness and product quality to meet demand of the market, create trust to partners and customers.
 
In the context of current economic difficulties, what has Son Luyen implemented specific solutions to develop sustainably?
The year of 2013 is experiencing many difficulties, however in difficulty we still find out new direction suitable for actual condition of enterprises. For example, currently the Government has reduced taxes and interest rates for enterprises. It is the opportunity for enterprises to expand production, market and improve competitiveness and ensure jobs for employees.
 
In Son Luyen, along with filling required insurances for employees, the company has also granted bonus for well performing employees; organised holidays, Tet holidays, visits to unhealthy employees, which has ensured employees to work, they consider the company their house. Regarding charity activities, the company actively participates in programmes like funding poor people, people in flooded area and especially houses for gratitude. Thanks to meaningful activities, Son Luyen has become well known both inside and outside Thai Nguyen province.
 
With direction of developing new brand of “Viet green colour”, Son Luyen aspires to make Vietnam farmers happy with bumper crops. Vietnam is characterized by green colours of trees and agricultural products, pure environment and happy people. It also aims to connect with the world, create long term trust of domestic and international customers.
