APU opened its door in 2004 on Lanh Binh Thang in District 11, Ho Chi Minh City, with only 20 students. Over the past 10 years, APU has graduated nearly 2,000 students to study at well-known universities in the United States. A great number of those graduates have been named to Dean’s honor lists at those universities. Almost all of the graduating students earn scholarships to study at well-established universities. This year alone, 76 APU graduates received scholarships in amounts valued at US$2.5 million.
Since its inception, APU has consistently offered high quality K-12 education to both local and foreign residents and has served as a gateway for students to study at prestigious American universities. As APU students go through our “Pathway to American Education”, a cadre of highly qualified teachers assures that students develop intellectual abilities, social skills, emotional strengths, environmental and global awareness, and life skills. The faculty gives students a solid foundation for the studies of physical and life sciences, mathematics and informatics, social sciences, history, arts, professional studies and foreign languages. APU is also an international choice for some American students as a study abroad site.
The APU Faculty members possess high academic qualifications credentials. For example, in the 2013-14 academic year, half of the high school subjects were taught by teachers with Ph.D. degrees and the other half by teachers with Master’s degrees. No other school in Vietnam has claimed such a high proportion of instructors with Ph.D. and Master’s degrees. High faculty qualification means that students are learning subjects that are cutting edge relevant and in tune with modern scientific methodologies.
APU’s focus on instructional quality has produced expected results. Nearly all of the APU graduates pursue higher education in accredited universities in the United States.
APU’s success is based on its commitment to its mission: “A Vietnam where every child is empowered to lead a stimulating intellectual life, a productive professional life, and a fulfilling personal life now and in the future”.
APU is planning to expand its educational system of K-12 to include international boarding schools in Saigon, Dalat and Danang cities. The project includes dormitories, a health care center, public service quarters, garden villas, residential apartments, a marina, a cultural park and more. Other plans are under way for educational facilities nationwide, which will extend access to American education opportunities for a broad range of Vietnamese students.
APU’s most ambitious educational project is the establishment of the first wholly foreign funded American university in Vietnam (The American University of Vietnam), which is in the process of completion in the city of Danang. The University is prepared to initially offer four programmes in business & hospitality management, communication, computer science, and engineering. Later, the University may expand its offerings to include nursing, health sciences and other professional studies. In the initial stage, the University facilities include an administrative building, four lecture halls, a sport arena, a dining hall and dormitories for students and faculty.
APU wishes to thank all parents and students for their continued support of the APU programmes and its educational ideals.
