As a state-owned enterprise directly administered by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, New Technology Application and Tourism One-member Limited Liability Company (Newtatco), set up 25 years ago, not only affirms its brand name in investment advisory and real estate business but also takes the lead in technological application and transfer and environmental treatment services. On the occasion of the Fourth National Environment Conference, Vietnam Business Forum interviewed Dr Dinh Hai Nam, Deputy General Director of Newtatco, on this issue. Tran Trang reports.

In recent years, Newtatco is not only known for its excellence in real estate and business services but also for its pioneering in environmental technology transfer. Would you talk about some of the achievements of Newtatco in this field?
In 2010, Newtatco engaged in environmental technology with its first commercial technological products like high-tech public toilets built to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi. The product was highly appreciated by the government and citizens for its quality and aesthetics. To bring more high-tech products to the market, Newtatco joined environmental remediation projects like waste water treatment system in Hapro industrial food cluster, water treatment technology in Yen Phu water plant, Yen Vien water plant and Phuc Tho water plant in Hanoi, and Dong Anh waste treatment facility.

One of the typical projects that Newtatco has undertaken is Dong Anh waste treatment plant furnished with the most modern PJMI plasma technology for handling and disposing municipal wastes and hazardous wastes. In June 2015, Newtatco together with its partners signed an investment cooperation agreement to build Song Duong water plant. Covering on over 80 ha of land, the VND5,000 billion facility will supply tap water for Hanoi and its surrounding localities like Bac Ninh, Hung Yen and Hai Duong.

In environmental technology, Newtatco is cooperating with many reputable suppliers in European and American countries with advanced technologies of high reliability and quality. The company recently began to transfer probiotics to kill waste smells in dump sites. The company will conduct researches and transfers technologies for treating disposed wastes in dumping sites to help improve the environment.

In the coming time, what business development plans will Newtatco take to sustain its development?
The Party Committee, the Board of Members and the Board of Directors of Newtatco are always determined to put the highest priority to create best environmental products as they directly affect people's livelihood. Therefore, in each project and product, Newtatco always ensures the highest quality standards of Vietnam, which are expected to advance to the world level soon. Newtatco is determined to transfer the most advanced environmental technology. Therefore, in recent years, the Party Committee, the Board of Members and the Board of Directors anticipated that Newtatco needs to push towards technology transfer to be a really strong supporter for other units administered by the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology as well as domestic and foreign partners. So, Newtatco focuses on implementing new technologies and innovative technologies for the Vietnamese market with the most reasonable price. Also, the company intends to increase the localisation rate in its products to turn out Newtatco-branded products.

Together with business front, Newtatco always pays attention to developing human resources by developing a typical corporate culture. Every employee will see the company as the common home where every member lives culturally, sociably, friendly and intimately. On the other hand, to attract high-level labourers, Newtatco focuses on every step of recruitment so as to opt out enthusiastic, devoted employees. The firm also has special employment treatments for top-notched technical experts. While strengthening employee-to-employee ties with the harmonious corporate culture, the company has also imposes strict discipline on workers using the collective labour agreement. Thus, after nearly 10 years specialising in environmental technology, the company has a perfect specialist force to respond to any market developments.

From environmental technology projects implemented, how do you assess urban wastewater facts and solutions?
Currently, the wastewater treatment in Vietnamese cities is fragmented and small-scaled on lack of systematic planning and investment from the beginning. We do hope that, through the 4th National Environment Conference, authorities will put forth appropriate policies for Vietnamese environmental reality. The government needs to have an overall survey of environmental pollution levels in provinces and cities, impose sanctions to encourage investors and businesses to pay more attention to this aspect more methodically. Even, environmental data must made public every year for public reference.

Besides, waste disposal in rural areas is being seriously neglected. Thus, the government needs to invest in environmental technology in this vast area to encourage investors and businesses to make investments into agriculture and rural development and minimise rural pollution. Further, the Government needs to invest in State-run public utility enterprises and provide them with preference treatments like preferential loans. I think that State-run enterprises in this field are very important although this field has been opened for social investment. Importantly, authorities must monitor technologies used in waste treatment facilities to prevent the presence of absolute technologies of the world.

When carrying out environmental projects, capital flow is extremely important. The State thus should provide financial supports for big environmental projects to quicken the construction progress.
