Party & State Leaders Welcome WB Group President
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and State President Truong Tan Sang on February 23 received visiting World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim.
At the receptions, the Party and State leaders praised the valuable and effective assistance of President Jim Yong Kim for Viet Nam especially on socio-economic development and international integration.
Mr Trong affirmed that Viet Nam would speed up the renovation in a comprehensive and synchronous manner with a view to converting Viet Nam into a modern industrialized country.
According to the Party chief, in the coming time, Viet Nam would focus on raising growth quality, labour productivity, competitiveness of the economy, implementing the three breakthroughs, economic restructuring, renovation of the growth model; restructuring SOEs, State budget, settling NPLs, and safeguarding public debts.
The Vietnamese leaders also proposed the WB strengthen support for Viet Nam in terms of financial source access and management experience and help Viet Nam realize socio-economic norms, and development orientations which are set out in the Viet Nam 2035 Report.
They hoped that the international lender would continue to back Viet Nam to effectively deal with development challenges from deep economic integration and global climate change.
They proposed the WB and President Jim Yong Kim support for Viet Nam to continue to get preferential loans from the International Development Association (IDA) in accordance with Viet Nam’s conditions and circumstances.
For his part, President Jim Yong Kim congratulated the success of the 12th Party Congress and the re-election of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
He hailed Viet Nam’s achievements in macro-economic stabilization, socio-economic development, and the sound path of socialist-oriented market economy.
The guest leader expressed his hope that Viet Nam would take drastic and sound measures to fulfil the preset goals, especially on institutional reform, legal framework completion, and the building of a competitive, fair, and transparent environment.
He was convinced that thanks to strong political determination and leadership efforts, Viet Nam would accelerate the comprehensive reform, maintain stable development, and realize the ambitious long-term development plans.
The WB Group President also praised Viet Nam as one of the pioneers in poverty reduction in which the extremely poor rate fell from over 50 per cent to only 3 per cent.
Mr Jim Yong Kim pledged that the WB would continue to provide necessary support to encourage international financial institutions to grant preferential loans for Viet Nam to accelerate the economic reform, stabilize the macro-economy, respond to climate change, and successfully realize the set goals of the 12th Party Congress.
