IBM and Five9 Vietnam have today announced they will work together on cloud services to bring Cognitive Computing to enterprises and organizations in Vietnam. Accordingly, Five9 is the first organization in Vietnam to tap into Watson APIs on IBM Bluemix to create and bring to life solutions that transform industries and society, starting with the banking and finance sector, healthcare and television. Also as part of the event, Five9 announced a training partnership in Cognitive computing with four top universities in computer science education in Vietnam and inked deals with three first businesses in Vietnam to propel the application into life.

Through a variety of agreements signed and announced today, IBM and Five9 will help businesses, educators, researchers, startup entrepreneurs and users in Vietnam gain access to artificial intelligence applications, while provide opportunities for many generations of developers to enhance their skills related to artificial intelligence and promote innovation.
The agreement with IBM will establish Five9 as the first company in Vietnam to build apps with cognitive capabilities that analyze unstructured data collected from social media to understand customer needs. For example, banking and finance companies can analyze their customers’ social interaction to anticipate their needs to deliver suitable and timely offers, such as financial loans for a car purchase or house renovation needs. Similarly, insurance companies can detect and prevent frauds and anticipate customers’ issues.
“Cognitive application is still new in the world," said Nguyen Trong Huan, Chairman of Five9. "Together with IBM, Five9 will implement Cognitive Computing technology in Vietnam on a comprehensive scale, hoping to contribute to breakthrough changes in all aspects of life and the economy. I think, with contributions of the state management organizations, universities, software enterprises.... Vietnam may have more advantages than other countries because we have a large user base of telecommunications services, 35% of the population uses social networks, average online time is 25 hours per week - nearly 15% higher than the world average. We can export software or outsource applications that use cognitive computing technology, which have higher value than many conventional software products. "
“The adoption of AI and cognitive computing for the delivery of improved personalized services is constantly increasing,” said Eric Yeo, IBM Vietnam Country General Manager. “Cognitive technology is not only about AI systems that can learn, reason and process natural languages – but also augment human intelligence and performance to make smarter business decisions. By collaborating with Five9 in the delivery of cognitive capabilities, IBM hopes to empower a community of “cognitive builders” in Vietnam, and change the way people in Vietnam extend their expertise across any domain of knowledge to solve complex problems.”
Five9’s cognitive capabilities powered by Watson APIs are built on the IBM Cloud (Bluemix) platform. For a long time, cloud choices were either “build your own” private cloud or put it all out there into a public cloud. IBM Cloud enables a hybrid infrastructure that delivers the security and control of an on-premise or private cloud with the flexibility and ease of managing data on the public cloud.
Through the new partnership, Five9 will also have access to IBM’s global network of technical and industry expertise, education, mentoring and enterprise customers and business partners, all of which can help to bring new and innovative cognitive products to Vietnam’s market quickly.
In Vietnam, Five9 will work with top universities in computer science training, including Information Technology College, Hanoi Technology University; Technology College, National University; IT and Telecoms Institute, Post and Telecoms Academy; and IT Institute, Military Science and Technology Academy, to provide training and transfer to the teachers and students of these academic institutions the knowledge and skills needed to adopt IBM cloud computing and cognitive computing technology. The partnership is of vital significance in building an IT workforce/community that is well familiar with cognitive computing technology in Vietnam. This will in turn be a meaningful contribution to the preparation for the Industrial revolution 4.0, add values and improve technology ownership for the software industry in Vietnam, in its drive toward exportation of software in this particular subsector.
Also in this morning event, Five9 closed deals with three businesses in Vietnam, the first of many - VTVlive, OneNet and BIDV (Hoai Duc branch) to launch cognitive computing applications for real life uses.
With VTVlive, Five9 will employ cognitive computing technology to have TV programs personalized and recommend the contents of movies and TV shows that fit the needs of specific service user groups. In its partnership with OneNet, Five9 will put in use cognitive computing technology and Watson API to support medical diagnosing and data analyzing functions of the hospital management system OneMes – an application currently in use in more than 40 hospitals and having won two Legs mansion awards. With BIDV bank, Five9 will assist analysis of payment services and communication channels to release suitable product information to customers through cognitive computing technology and metadata.

Mr. Phan The Vinh, Managing Director of Five9, and Mr Pham Huy Trieu, Director of VTVlive are signing the partnership agreement
Through every practical step, Five9 hopes to tap cognitive computing technology to support computer science teaching and update the knowledge on advanced technologies for future generations of developers, improve the country’s status in the global information technology map, and in the meantime support businesses in their operations and contribute to improving and raising the quality of living.
