This is the remark by world-acclaimed chef Martin Yan (Yancancook) at a culinary event funded by Ranee premium cooking oil brand in the framework of An Giang Tourism Month 2017.
Martin Yan, born in 1948, is a Chinese American chef and the main character in the famous cooking programme, Yan Can Cook. Born in Guangzhou, China, in a family whose father is a chef and mother is a grocer, Yan began cooking at the age of 12. Later, he moved to Kowloon, Hong Kong and worked in his uncle's restaurant. Yan received a degree from the diploma from the Overseas Institute of Cookery of Hong Kong. At the age of 18, he attended a one-year college study in Calgary before heading straight to California. He worked at the University of California, Davis. In 1978, he appeared in a local talk show called Calgary. And, he has hosted over 1,500 episodes of cooking show Yan Can Cook.
Yan has opened a chain of Yan Can Restaurants and founded the Yan Can International Cooking School in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has written many cookbooks, for example, Martin Yan's Feast: The Best of Yan Can Cook; Chinese Cooking for Dummies; Martin Yan's Asian Favorites; Martin Yan's Quick and Easy.
In Vietnam, Martin Yan has long been familiar to everyone. No other world-renowned chef is more popular than him in Vietnam. Unlike his previous visits to Vietnam, he participated in a special event in the series of cultural, sports and tourism activities in An Giang Tourism Month 2017 on this visit. With the companion of Ranee premium cooking oil brand, Martin Yan's cooking show attracted thousands of viewers.
During the 60-minute show, Chef Yan used Ranee premium cooking oil for dozens of dishes (European, Asian, especially Vietnamese). Two chefs from Dong Xuyen Hotel under An Giang Tourism Joint Stock Company (a member of Sao Mai Group) supported him during this special show. In his career history, this was the first time Martin Yan used cooking oil extracted from fish fat. Before leaving for Vietnam, he spent much time researching Ranee’s special features and properties to adapt his unique dishes to honour the great value of this Vietnamese spicy dish. He was very excited about the new cooking oil and used his talent and experience to create new menus for tourists.
The companion of Ranee high-grade cooking oil with Yancancook show showed that celebrity choices are geared to new and differentiated products. Micronutrients in cooking oil must be natural, not mixed. “Although the cooking oil is extracted from fish oil, it is not fishy at all but characteristically aromatic. The very uniqueness of Ranee has brought a great inspiration in cooking to me. Ranee is not only used for frying, cooking and salad but also used with foods for children to supplement nutrients necessary for the body,” Martin Yan said.
The popularity of Yancancook and the uniqueness of Ranee cooking oil made the success of his show in An Giang province. He brought a whole new flavour to dishes with Ranee. Through the show, he inspired thousands of visitors to cook with their passion. Particularly, the way to choose safe, pure, clean and natural cooking oil is also a secret to cook more deliciously and more nutritiously. Ranee shined the image of Martin Yan during the Food Culture & Tourism Week in An Giang.
On his first visit to An Giang, Martin Yan dropped in on historical and cultural vestiges in Chau Doc and used all travel services, foods and accommodations at Dong Xuyen Hotel. He had a good impression and admiration to meticulous, scientific and professional preparation and warm reception of Sao Mai Group and local people.
