Seafood Exports Surge in Jan-Jun

Vietnam exported 3.561 million tonnes of aquatic products in the first six months of 2018, up 5.7 per cent year on year, according to a report by the Directorate of Fisheries. Of the sum, commercial fishing reached 1.767 million tonnes, representing a year on year growth of 5 per cent and farming output rose 6.4 per cent to 1.793 million tonnes. The export value was estimated at US$4.026 billion, up 12.9 per cent from a year ago.

The country is expected to export nearly 3.957 million tonnes of aquatic products worth US$5.974 billion in the last six months of the year to bring the full year value to US$10 billion, said the directorate. According to industry experts, given positive results in the first six months, the target of US$10 billion in 2018 is within reach.
