Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, formerly the Vietnam Air Navigation Department of Vietnam (VANAD), was established on April 20, 1993. VATM currently provides services on an airspace area of nearly 1.2 million square kilometers, covering 30 provinces and cities; and air traffic services on 35 domestic and 36 international air routes, of which FIR Ho Chi Minh has high-density air routes and holds an important position for flight operations over the East Sea.
Defining safe, regulated and efficient air traffic services for all flights in the responsibility airspace as a core competence and activity, in the past 30 years, VATM has ensured absolutely safe flight operations for more than 11 million flights and become one of the leading aviation companies in terms of productivity, quality and efficiency. The corporation made total revenue from air traffic management of nearly VND65 trillion and paid over VND32 trillion to the State Budget.
VATM works closely with military units and air traffic management authorities of countries in the region to promptly detect and regulate unplanned or violated flight operations to secure the airspace security of the country.

Mr. Pham Viet Dung, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of VATM's Board of Members, said this success comes from the proper investment, technological innovation, and scientific and technical improvement and application for better air traffic management service quality. VATM also actively cooperates with foreign agencies to research and optimize airspace and air traffic control procedures.
VATM put into operation the Ho Chi Minh Area Control Centre (HCM ACC) in 2006 and inaugurated the Hanoi Air Traffic Control Center (Ha Noi ATCC) in 2015. VATM invested in upgrading and building many new air traffic control towers, such as Buon Ma Thuot, Rach Gia, Phu Cat (in 2000 and 2001), Ca Mau (in 2002), Dien Bien Phu (in 2004), Vinh (2005), Phu Bai (2006), Con Son (2006) and Cam Ranh (2009). Most recently, on September 29, 2022, VATM started constructing the Component 2 Project of “Air traffic management service facilities” under the “Long Thanh International Airport - Phase 1” Project.
VATM aims to conduct comprehensive and synchronous innovation; carry out investment solutions, apply cutting-edge information technology to air traffic management and operation, and improve the capacity to ensure flight safety; plan and design the airspace and apply advanced air traffic control procedures (air traffic flows management) to create fundamental changes in system capacity; and gives priority to straightening main air routes and high-density air routes.

At the same time, VATM is active and ready to switch to new information technology, navigation and monitoring systems according to ICAO's roadmap for upgrading aviation equipment and mastering modern advanced control technology.
VATM aims to become Southeast Asia’s leading air traffic management service provider by 2030 on both air traffic control capacity and service quality criteria; have a reliable safety management system; and apply modern technologies and advanced air traffic management solutions.
| Throughout 30 years of development, VATM's collectives and individuals have been honored with many noble titles and awards such as “Labor Hero in the renovation”; Third-class Independence Order; 16 First, Second and Third-class Labor Orders; 23 Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister; 16 Emulation Flags from the Government; and Eagle Awards from the International Air Transport Association. |
To accomplish this goal, VATM will continue to invest in modern facilities and technical equipment, technological innovation and digital transformation; perfect its organizational model; and consolidate service organization. In addition, VATM will foster high-quality human resource training, including leaders and managers; experts qualified to approach and master advanced technologies; and build up the workforce to meet the standard requirements of the Government and ICAO.
“By doing so, VATM’s air traffic management will be brought to the level of countries with advanced aviation industry in the region and the world,” he said.
