Vietnam's Telecoms Sector to Spur Economic Growth
The region’s premier info-communications technology (ICT) and broadcasting events, CommunicAsia2007 and BroadcastAsia2007, will return to the Singapore Expo from 19 to 22 June 2007. The exhibitions will showcase a converged world, featuring a wide spectrum of cutting edge, enabling digital technologies by global companies.
Spread over a total of eight halls, the shows will see the gathering of over 2,400 exhibiting companies, coming together to demonstrate the transforming powers of digital technologies that are redefining the boundaries of traditionally segmented telecommunications networks, enterprise solutions and entertainment arenas. Victor Wong, Project Director (Communications) with organizer Singapore Exhibition Services, said CommunicAsia2007 and BroadcastAsia2007 are good platforms for Vietnam to establish networks with leading communications equipment manufacturers and service providers, which could be contacted to help develop Vietnam’s communications sector.
As one of Southeast Asia’s fastest growing economies, Vietnam is putting considerable effort into modernizing and expanding its telecommunications infrastructure. The exhibition, supported by Vietnam’s Ministry of Posts & Telematics, will allow visitors from Vietnam to see the latest innovations from the most influential international vendors and operators, and leverage the exhibition platform to reach out to the region and beyond.Telecoms growth rate, technology upgrades, and value added services, are undergoing strong development in Vietnam. The local government is focusing on developing the ICT sector, providing preferential policies for the sector and facilitating its development.
According to 2005 statistics released by the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service and U.S. Department of State, telecommunications and related industries are currently among Vietnam’s fastest growing industries. The International Telecommunication Union has rated its telecom sector as the second fastest growing telecom market in the world after China. The trade event’s relevance to countries eager to keep up in the IT rat race is reflected in the participation from Vietnam, rising more than 30 per cent in 2006 from the previous year. CommunicAsia2006 featured 2,338 exhibiting companies from 66 countries, and attracted more than 67,000 international business attendees.
