Vietnam’s apparel and footwear sectors are estimated to ship US$4.24 billion and US$2.36 billion in the first seven months of this year, up 28.6 per cent and 14 per cent on-year, respectively.

The figure shows that garments and textiles sector remained the country’s second largest forex earner only after crude oil sector of $4.4 billion in January-July.

The result is mainly thanks to apparel contracts signed in the second quarter, which are set for delivery in July, it noted. Export products for those deals signed this month, down 10 per cent on-month, are nearly completed.

In July, local apparel firms are estimated to have shipped $750 million, up 1.8 per cent on month, the highest growth during the time. The footwear sector earned $750 million, up 0.5 per cent on month.

The two sectors have been suffering from negative impacts from EU anti-dumping taxes on shoes and possibility of monitoring mechanism of the US. (Youth, Investment, GSO July Edition)
