The Lao Ministry of Industry and Trade and Vietnamese counterpart will join hands to hold the Vietnam-Laos Trade Fair 2007 in the neighbor’s capital of Vientiane from August 30 to September 5, state media reported.

This is an annual event aimed at boosting investment promotion and trade cooperation.

Over 100 Lao enterprises and 60 Vietnamese firms will take part in the fair with 300 in-door and more than 100 out-door booths, said the Lao ministry.

The event will showcase products such as farm produce, foods, agricultural machines, apparel and handicrafts.

The two countries have just jointly organized the 29th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee to promote the two-side investment.

Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Laos was US$240 million in 2006, up 30 per cent on-year. The two neighbors have set a target of obtaining two-way trade of US$1 billion by 2010.

Vietnam continues to stamp its mark on Laos’ business environment and is now the third largest investor in the country behind Thailand and China, according to the Lao Committee for Planning and Investment.

Vietnamese businesses have invested in 106 projects worth US$516 million in Laos, mainly in the fields of mining, hydropower and energy and agriculture. (Vietnam &n World Economy, VNA)
