Vietnam garment and textile exports to the US market will not grow strongly in the remaining months of this year to avoid the foreign country’s monitoring mechanism and anti-dumping tax, said Le Quoc An, Chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas)

The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has not yet released its final conclusion, however, Vietnam apparel exporters should be more cautious than ever before, the chairman noted.

Vitas and the Ministry of Industry and Trade will be more active in discussing the issue with the US authorities especially on the visit of the US Ministry of Trade to the country in October, 2007, An noted.

As scheduled, the DOC’s conclusion will be announced in late August.

Vietnam’s textile and garment exports stateside may drop 50 per cent and about 80 per cent of a total 2,000 Vietnamese garment companies may go bankrupt if DOC issues a negative judgment, An said. (Vietnam & World Economy)
