Russia Conducts 3rd Inspection on Vietnamese Seafood Firms
A delegate from the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Physio-sanitary Surveillance (VPSS) Sunday arrived in Vietnam for their third inspection on Vietnamese seafood processing and exporting enterprises to Russia.
The first and the second inspections were conducted on March and July this year, which focused on checking safety standards at 20 aquaculture breeding and processing facilities in the Mekong Delta, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (Vasep).
Eleven of the enterprises satisfied the inspectors and were allowed to export seafood to Russia.
The Vasep last month asked the enterprises to register for inspecting procedures and quality certificates while tightening management on exported seafood volume to Russia as informing.
The association also called on the enterprises to ensure foodstuff safety and hygiene in their exports in line with both Vietnam’s and Russia’s regulations.
Vietnam shipped more than 58,700 tons of aquatic products worth US$126.3 million to Russia last year. According to Vasep, Russia is a promising seafood market with consistently rising consumption.
Meanwhile, 30 representatives from Vietnamese seafood businesses came to Russia for the World Food Fair in Moscow from September 14-24, the annual largest international food fair in Russia.
The tour to Russia is a part of national seafood trade promotion campaign within September in five foreign countries, comprising Russia, Australia, Chile, Brazil and Spain. (VietnamAgriculture, Vietnam & World Economy)
