Vietnam aims for export turnover of US$12.9 billion in the fourth quarter of 2007 in a bid to fulfill this year’s planned total export revenues of US$48.1 billion, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said at a reviewing conference in Hanoi October 9.
To realize the target, local exporters need to focus on key and potential exports such as apparels, footwear, plastics, electric wire and cable, electronics, seafood, said Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Bien.
Bien suggested that relevant authorities should actively boost up administrative and customs reform to facilitate exporters while urging career associations to enhance their roles in connecting, assisting and supplying necessary exporting information for their members.
In the first nine months, Vietnam’s export revenue reached US$35.2 billion, up 19.4 per cent on year. Meanwhile, the country’s import spending hit US$42 billion in January-September.
The country is estimated to face a trade deficit of US$10.3 billion by the end of the year.
