MobiFone Aims for 38.7 per cent of Vietnam Market Shares in 2008

MobiFone, Vietnam’s second largest mobile phone network, has set a target of holding 38.7 per cent of the local market shares next year to become the country’s top market shares owner, state media announced on November 22.
 
MobiFone’s networks are named as the highest in quality among six mobile service providers in Vietnam, according to a recent test by the Post and Telematics Quality Control Directorate under the Ministry of Information and Communications.
 
The operator is speeding up its privatization to list shares on the stock market.
 
VMS-MobiFone developed 3.3 million new subscribers as of late September, raising its total subscribers nationwide to 9 million, which accounted for 30 per cent of the country’s market share.
 
The revenues of MobiFone and VinaPhone now account for over 60 per cent of the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications (VNPT)’s total figure whilst staffs of the two mobile phone operators represent 5.5 per cent of VNPT’s manpower.
 
MobiFone expects to post VND9.7 trillion in revenue this year up from VND9.1 trillion (US$568.7 million) in 2006, and hopes to sign up 2.5 million subscribers, raising the total to over seven revenue –generating subscribers.
 
Vietnam presently has six mobile phone networks serving 24 million subscribers. Vinaphone, Viettel Mobile and MobiFone are largest networks with round seven million subscribers each. (Vietnam Post)
