Vietnam will pour more cash in the agricultural machine industry to make it a strong one in the country and the Asian region by 2020, according to the overall development plan for engine and agricultural machine industry in 2006-2015 period and toward 2020.

Under the plan approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the industry will try to reach a production value of VND 1.99 trillion (US$124.3 million) in 2010, VND 3.28 trillion (US$205 million) in 2015 and VND 5.4 trillion (US$337.5 million) in 2020.

The plan stresses that the industry should strive to meet domestic demands for 12HP two-wheeled tractors by 2010 and part of local needs of four-wheeled tractors of higher capacities.

Local factories will focus on making engine parts, such as body, camshaft, crankshaft and connecting rod with the aim of producing hi-tech devices, such as oil pump, high-pressure valve and multi-fuel engines after 2015.

Currently, locally-made engine and agricultural machine have been well consumed at local market where sees the presence of the same kinds imported from China.

Vietnam’s agricultural machines are also exported to ASEAN countries like the Philippines, Malaysian, Myanmar, Indonesia and Singapore, to EU and Southern American countries. (Vietnam & World Economy)
