A Vietnamese delegation to be led by the Vietnam Chamber of Industry and Trade (VCCI) will attend a exhibition displaying consumer goods, handicrafts and interior decoration in Las Vegas, the United States from May 6-8, Pioneer newspaper said on March 19.

This is the biggest consumer goods exhibition held annually in the U.S. with the participation of over 1,050 companies from 35 countries worldwide.

Apart from marketing local products, the Vietnamese delegation will hold a series of activities to promote products and potentials of Vietnam to visitors.

This will be a good opportunity for Vietnamese products to further penetrate into the U.S. market via the gateway of Las Vegas, said the VCCI.

In 2007, Vietnam surpassed Chile, Colombia, the Philippines and Spain to be listed among 30 biggest exporters to the U.S., according to a report by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).

ITC statistics indicated that Vietnam's shipments to the U.S., reached US$10.54 billion last year, up 25 per cent on year, mainly driven by traditional items of apparel (36 per cent), woodwork (36 per cent), electric equipment (67 per cent) and coffee (52 per cent).

Despite the worry about a possible recession of the U.S. economy, Vietnam expects that the country's export turnover to the vast market would gain US$13.1 billion this year.
