Lenovo to Boost Investments in Vietnam
Lenovo, one of the world’s largest PC makers, is planning to pour more cash in Vietnam’s laptop market to further tap its potential, Dion Weisler, vice President and General Manger of Lenovo ASEAN, said.
Vietnam laptop market is developing strongly in the Pacific-Asia region, behind India, with an estimated annual growth rate of 19 per cent, Dion Weisler added, noting that the country gained highest growth rate in the region last year.
“Beside high-income earners, we will pay more attention to local rural region, where most population is low-income earners,” he revealed, adding that his company is working with local authorities on the issue.
Vietnamese are forecast to buy up to 320,000 laptops worth US$336 million in 2008 up from 180,000 units last year.
Currently, Lenovo is the third best PC selling brand in Vietnam, standing only behind HP and Acer. Lenovo recorded a much stronger year-on-year unit growth rate of 174 per cent compared to HP’s 155 per cent and Acer’s 154 per cent in 2007. (Vietnam Economic Times)
