Haiphong's Jan-May Imports up 80 per cent at US$850 Mln
The northern port city of Haiphong is estimated to have imported US$850 million worth of goods in the first five months of this year, up 80 per cent on-year, the Dau Tu (Investment) newspaper reported May 30.
Most of the money goes to finished products worth US$750 million, apparel and footwear accessories of US$43.4 million, equipment and machines of US$38.7 million, and steel and iron of US$11.3 million, the paper said.
During the period, the city fetches US$550 million from exports, up 27.6 per cent on-year and meeting 37 per cent of the year’s target.
The city’s export staples include footwear worth US$127.9 million, electric wires and cables of US$62.6 million and apparel of US$39.1 million.
