Deputy PM Urges to Speed up Pangasius Purchase
Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has sent dispatch asking provincial People&rsquos Committees in Mekong Delta, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the State Bank of Vietnam to clear any jams in pangasius purchase and aquatic product catching.

Hai asked provincial People&rsquos Committees of An Giang, Dong Thap, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Hau Giang, Can Tho, Tien Giang, and Ben Tre to continue support local companies to buy pangasius, then quickly process for export.

He also instructed the committees to map out plans to support fishermen who have been hard hit by increased fuel prices.

The Deputy PM also asked the State Bank of Vietnam to simplify lending procedures to local companies and fishermen to facilitate their business.

Local banks are asked to lend companies VND1 trillion to buy pangasius from farmers. As of June 23, only more than VND265 billion has been disbursed to buy 45,000 tons of fish.

Under the prime minister&rsquos decision 289, each fisherman will receive VND70 million a year to build a fishing boat with a capacity of 90cv or more.

The state will cover 30 per cent of the insurance cost for ships with a capacity of 40cv or more and 100 per cent of accident insurance for sailors.
