Vietnamese Coffee Export Prices Jumping
Export prices of Vietnamese coffee are surging sharply following the soar of coffee prices on the world market.

Vietnamese robusta coffee was traded at US$2,130 a ton of second grade, FOB, July 2, up by US$50 a ton from a week earlier, and some 18 per cent from the same period of last year.

The price rise was attributed to thin supply from local farmers, who want to sell their bean at higher prices, while at the world market, speculators are boosting purchase.

Vietnam exported 571,000 tons of coffee in the first half of 2008, raking in US$1.181 billion, down 31.7 per cent on year in volume and 4.1 per cent in value. (Countryside Today, GSO June Edition)
