Vietnam: Commercial Power Output Reaches 31.82 Bln kWh in H1
Vietnam&rsquos commercial electricity output reportedly reached over 31.82 billion kWh in the first six months of this year, up 15.6 per cent on year, the Vietnam & World Economy newspaper reported July 3.
 
Among total power production volume of 36.44 billion kWh in the Jan-Jun period, the state-owned Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) produced 25.33 billion kWh, up 10.7 per cent on year while the rest was mobilized from local and foreign sources, up 15.6 per cent on year, the group said.
 
Up to 16.32 billion kWh of commercial power was provided for the countrys industry and construction sectors, up 20.1 per cent on year.
 
Meanwhile, power consumption by management sector and households hit 12.79 billion kWh during the period, up 10.7 per cent on year and 2.71 billion kWh of electricity was supplied for commerce and hotel sectors, up 15.1 per cent on year.
 
EVN also raised total output of hyower plants by 25 per cent to 9.4 billion kWh during the time.
 
The Ministry of Industry and Trade said the power production faced difficulties in the period due to lower water levels of hydroelectricity lakes during dry season and higher electricity demand in the wake of gas and petroleum price hikes.
 
Vietnam is fore to face a severe power shortage of between 1,500 MW and 2,500 MW from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm daily in July this year, said the National Electricity Dispatching Center (Ao).
 
The country&rsquos power shortfall is estimated at 8.6 billion kWh for the whole year 2008. (Vietnam & World Economy)
