French Firm Keen on Hanoi Metro Projects

The French leading group Alstom Transport wants to join Hanoi’s first ever metro system projects as a contractor of equipment, said Managing Director in Asian and the Pacific Tom Richardson said.
 
ALSTOM Transport is very interest in metro projects in Hanoi, he said at a meeting with Vice Mayor Nguyen Van Khoi August 7, adding the company will carry out related cooperation contents signed with the municipal authorities earlier.
 
At the meeting, the Hanoi official said that the metro route connecting the Hanoi station and Nhon in the outlying district of Tu Liem is estimated to cost over EUR500 million sourced from official development assistance (ODA) capital, including around EUR200 million from the French Government.
 
Khoi also briefed his guest on the Hoan Kiem Lake-Thang Long bridge metro project worth US$1.2 billion and the other linking Ngoc Khanh (Dong Da district) with Hoa Lac, a new urban centre more than 30 kilometers from the capital’s heart.
 
Alstom Transport has operated in Vietnam since 1989 with a number of projects to produce electricity and supply railway equipment.
 
Vietnam will acquire US$12.7 billion to carry out railway projects in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from now to 2020 with foreign investment to account for 77 per cent, the Ministry of Planning and Investment said.
 
Of the total figure, US$7.3 billion is needed to construct 128 kilometers of railway systems in Hanoi and US$5.4 billion is to build six metro routes with 92 km in length. (News)
