Vietnam Estimates 2008 Rice Exports at US$2.67 Bln
Vietnam may reap more than US$2.67 billion from exporting around 4.7 million tons of rice in 2008, posting the highest revenue so far, according to the Vietnam Food Association.
In the first 20 days of December, local companies exported 234,893 tons of rice worth US$100.18 million, raising the country’s total rice export revenue so far this year to US$2.576 billion with total export volume of 4.479 million tons.
The country has won a deal with the Philippines to ship 500,000 tons of 25 per cent broken rice for US$380 a ton, CIP, early next year.
Currently, export price of Vietnamese rice is averaging at US$410 a ton of 5 per cent broken rice, FOB. At local market, the price is around VND3,200 a kilogram, up by VND400 a kilogram from early this month. (Vietnam Economic Times, Vietnam Agriculture)
