Vietnam To Host World Technology Forum This August

The 4th World Information Technology Forum 2009 (WITFOR 2009), with the theme "Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Sustainable Development", will take place in Hanoi from August 25 to 28.
 
WITFOR 2009, to be organized in Asia for the first time, is expected to bring enormous benefits to the region, open up new and broader paths for developing countries to apply achievements in ICT into socio-economic life, said Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information and Communications Nguyen Minh Hong.
 
The biennial forum, initiated by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) since 2003, is aimed to help developing countries boost IT applications to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
 
Major donors for WITFOR 2009, including Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT), Huawei Vietnam, Foxconn, Motorola, BacA Bank, France Telecom, have pledged US$500,000 for the event.
 
The government of Vietnam views ICT as a key industry and a sound basis for socio-economic development, and has been investing more and more resources into developing the national ICT industry, Hong added. (VNA, Industry & Trade)
