Haiphong Aims to Become Int’l City by 2020
The Ministry of Construction has just a submitted the prime minister a plan to develop the northern port city of Haiphong into an international city by 2020 and a vision for further development through 2050.
Under the ministry’s plan, Haiphong city, which will cover a total area of 1,521 square kilometers, includes 12 local districts, suburban districts, Cat Ba Island and Dinh Vu-Cat Hai Economic Zone by 2020.
The city is aimed to become an international trade center and a driving force for the northern region’s economic development.
The northern port city attracted a total foreign direct investment of $55.8 million in the first six months this year, down 94.2% on-year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said on its Website recently.
In the period, the city earned $734.9 million from exports, up 9.33% on-year while imported $748.403 million of goods, down 26% on-year, the ministry said.
Between in January and June, Haiphong posted an industrial production value of VND17.254 trillion, up 6.92% from a year ago. (Youth)
