Benefits of Open Source Software to Business Activities

The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) collaborated with the Ministry of Science and Technology and Linux International Company to hold a workshop on “Open Source and Sustainable Business” in Hanoi on August 29, 2009.

 

This activity was part of the project “Assisting businesses to apply ICT to serve integration and development in the 2005-2010 period” that the Government assigned VCCI to implement. The event was aimed to provide knowledge of free and open source software.

 

At the workshop, Mr Jon Maddog Hall, President and CEO of Linux International, presented the notion of free and open source software and reasons why engineers write Freedom Software and benefits of Freedom Software to business activities.

 

He said system administrators and specialists can make money from Freedom Software as they help manage products, marketing strategies, training programmes and product consulting services. He added any one can become a specialist by downloading open source software from internet and making money from it.

 

This training course became an opportunity for enterprises to contact, exchange and discuss with Mr Jon “maddog” Hall about business activities regarding open and free software.
