Vietnam Takes Lead in Foreign Investments in Laos

Vietnam remains the largest foreign investor in Laos for the second consecutive year with a total registered capital of US$1.4 billion.
 
Most of Vietnamese projects in Laos focus on the areas of industrial sector, mineral processing and production, hydropower construction.
 
China ranked the second with US$932 million, followed by Thailand and South Korea.
 
The Lao Ministry of Planning and Investment said Laos is expected to see a sharp rise in foreign direct investment this year.
 
Between January and September, the Laotian government licensed 208 projects totaling US$4.3 billion, up US$1.2 billion against the same period of last year.
 
Mining, hydropower, industrial tree planting and garment are the most attractive sectors for foreign investors in Laos.
 
The Laotian government has applied a “one-stop-shop” mechanism in investment licensing, creating the most favorite conditions for both domestic and foreign firms. (VNA)
