Vietnam will allow foreign visitors to bring their motorbikes to the country during their stay here in the future, the government of Vietnam said.

The PM has ordered the Minister of Transport and relevant ministries and agencies to instruct travel companies to guarantee traffic security and safety for foreign tourists riding motorbikes to the nation.

The move aims to facilitate the development of by-road tourism in Vietnam, the Vietnamese Government said on its website Dec 14.

According to the Vietnam National Administration Tourism, from 2006 to 2008, international travel companies organized nearly 200 caravans with around 3,500 vehicles of all kinds and about 11,000 turns of tourists through the border gates in Central Vietnam.

Allowing the entry of motorbike caravans into Vietnam is expected to create big chances for charming a large number of international tourists to the country, especially those traveling through Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and China along trans-Asia routes, the Mekong River and the East-West Economic Corridor.

Vietnam welcomed 3.4 million foreign visitors in the first eleven months of this year, representing an on-year decrease of 12.3%. (chinhphu.vn))
