Vietnam Firms Ink Deals to Export 2.38M Tons of Rice This Year
Vietnamese companies have signed contracts to export 2.38 million tons of rice this year, with prices ranging between $480 and $665/ton, the Nhan Dan newspaper reported Wednesday, citing the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).
VFA said that local companies have exported 87,662 tons of rice worth $38 million since the beginning of this year.
Currently in the country’s granary, Mekong Delta region, unhusked rice is traded at VND5,600-VND5,700/kg and 5% broken rice is selling for VND8,600-VND8,700/kg and 25% broken rice, VND8,100-VND8,200/kg.
The VFA said that it will build 42 rice warehouses to raise total storage capacity to four million tons late 2010 from two million tons. Last year, the association built 10 warehouses with combined capacity of 160,000 tons. (The People)
