HCM City GDP to Grow 10% in Q1
Ho Chi Minh City is likely to see its economy to expand 10% in the first quarter of this year, given the good economic results in Jan-Feb period, the head of the municipal Statistics Office Du Quang Nam predicted.
Nam made the forecast at a meeting on March 2 where the municipal People’s Committee reviewed review local socioeconomic status for the Jan-Feb period and set forth tasks for the coming months.
The city’s industrial production value posted an on-year increase of 17.9% during the period, compared to 2.9% reported for the same period last year.
At the meeting, the municipal People’s Committee Chairman Le Hoang Quan also called for further efforts to control prices, especially those of essential commodities, and prevent speculation of goods and foreign currencies.
“Restraining consumer prices is not only significant for the city but also for the whole country,” Quan said.
In the first two months, HCM City collected VND36.55 trillion to the state budget, fulfilling 18.3% of its whole-year plans and soaring 33.7% compared the same period last year.
Of the value, collections from domestic taxes were VND15.59 trillion, crude oil VND2.47 trillion and im-export activities VND8.3 trillion.
The city estimated its total expenditure at VND2.83 trillion during the period. (Vietnam Economic Times)
