Spanish Firms Eye PPP Projects in Vietnam
Spanish companies said at a meeting with local firms in Hanoi on March 23-24 that they are advancing interest in infrastructure projects under the form of public-private partnership (PPP) in Vietnam.
Spanish Ambassador Fernando Curcio Ruigomez was quoted by the Thoi bao Kinh te newspaper as saying many of the firms from Madrid and Barcelona are keen on investment opportunities in the country.
Total investments for infrastructure development are forecast to account for 10% to 11% of the country’s GDP by 2020, analysts said.
The South Asian country needs multibillion dollars to implement plans to build 2,200 km of expressways, the North-South railway, Van Phong port and Long Thanh airport in next years.
As of mid-December, Spanish firms poured only US$18.5 million into seven projects in Vietnam, ranking 55th among countries making direct investment in the Southeast Asian country. (Vietnam Economic Times)
